Redondo Beach is the southernmost of the South Bay’s three beach cities and the most varied: a working harbor and the Horseshoe Pier, the shops and restaurants of Riviera Village, and quieter inland neighborhoods in North Redondo. It’s where the beach-city lifestyle meets a wider range of homes and prices.
Neighborhoods in Redondo Beach
- South Redondo (90277): the coastal side of town, with the Esplanade above the beach, the Avenues, the pier, King Harbor and Riviera Village.
- Riviera Village: the walkable shopping and dining district at the southern tip of the city, between PCH and the ocean, with more than 300 businesses.
- The Avenues: Avenue A to Avenue I in South Redondo. The “Lower Avenues” west of PCH are a few blocks from the sand.
- North Redondo (90278): inland and mostly residential, roughly north of 190th Street, with access to the I-405 and the Metro K Line.
- Golden Hills: a hillside pocket of North Redondo between Artesia Boulevard and 190th Street, bordering Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach.
Schools
Redondo Beach Unified School District serves the city, with eight elementary schools (Alta Vista, Beryl Heights, Birney, Jefferson, Lincoln, Madison, Tulita and Washington), Adams Middle School (generally North Redondo), Parras Middle School (central and South Redondo) and Redondo Union High School. School assignment depends on the address, so confirm it with the district for any home you’re considering.
Beaches, harbor and the outdoors
Redondo’s beach runs more than a mile and a half from the pier south to Torrance Beach. The concrete Horseshoe Pier, completed in 1996, has restaurants, shops and fishing, and King Harbor next door is the base for sailing, paddleboarding and sportfishing trips.
Seaside Lagoon, a protected saltwater swimming area by the harbor, opens in summer. Parks include Dominguez Park, home to the Redondo Beach Historical Museum, Veterans Park above the pier, and Hopkins Wilderness Park, which even allows overnight camping.
Dining and shopping
Riviera Village is the local favorite for brunch, boutiques and evenings out, and the pier and waterfront have everything from casual seafood to sunset drinks. The South Bay Galleria on Hawthorne Boulevard is open while plans for its redevelopment work their way through the city.

- Riviera Village Summer Festival: late June.
- Super Bowl Sunday 10K: every February.
- Summer concerts on the pier: Thursdays and Saturdays in July and August.
- King Harbor Holiday Boat Parade: December.

The I-405 crosses North Redondo, Pacific Coast Highway runs the length of the city, and the Metro K Line’s Redondo Beach station in North Redondo connects toward the LAX/Metro Transit Center and Inglewood.
